In the collaborative process, a financial neutral is essential for complete knowledge of the current finances and modeling of how the finances could end up. No divorcing parties should be without both of these financial pictures and a CDFA is uniquely trained to provide this information. Hidden assets, property settlements, tax consequences, dividing retirement plans, health care coverage, stock option elections, pension plan valuations are some of the complexities I capture. CDFA's can save clients time and money by aiding them to come up with their own durable agreement. My corporate background, as well as my Financial Coaching business allow me to understand nuances others my not.

John is a strong supporter of the Collaborative Practice for divorces. He believes that for a significant percentage of the divorces, including those with complex issues and/or a high level of conflict, it is possible to have the couple resolve their divorce issues without having to go through the stress and trauma of court motions, hearings, and a trial. This often results in a healthier post-divorce relationship, which can be very important when children are involved. John was involved in eastern Washington's first collaborative divorce case. He has continued this groundbreaking trend by being one of the most active collaborative divorce attorneys in the region, and no longer does adversarial (litigation) representation for divoce clients.

Credentials: John is a member of the Washington State Bar Association, and it's Family Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution sections. John is also a member of the Spokane County Bar Association and it's Family Law Section.

Group Memberships: John is member of the International Association of Collaborative Professionals (IACP), Collaborative Professionals of Washington (CPW), and Spokane County Collaborative PRofessionals (SCCP). John is a co-founder of both CPW and SCCP, and served as an officer and board member of CPW for over 4 years, and has continuously served as an officer and board member of SCCP since it's founding. These two organizations are active in the effort to educate both the public and the legal profession about Collaborative Practice, and the revolutionary way it helps individuals resolve their divorce issues.

Collaborative Law Process is a private alternative to traditional litigation. It provides a means for participants to achieve the desired result of a dissolution or quasi-marital split with an exchange of information to enable an informed decision between the parties for what makes the most sense for their circumstances. It gives both parties a process to determine their own future and the well-being of their children with privacy, integrity and dignity. The Collaborative Process is a win-win for all concerned.

Alexandra (Xana), an attorney practicing for 28 years, guides her clients toward identifying long-term goals and objectives as they restructure their relationships through a legal process. Once identified, those goals and objectives become the beacons for clients in a divorce, legal separation, guardianship or other legal proceeding. She has witnessed this focus preserve relationships in transition by decreasing damaging conflict. As the client navigates the process, she focusses her clients on reaching an enduring settlement. A King County Collaborative Law board member and a member of the Probate, Elder Law and Guardianship Group, Xana sees a natural synergy in extending the collaborative practice to elder law clients too. Having litigated since 1987 and collaborated since 2008, Xana has keen insight into the pros and cons of a myriad of dispute resolution options from litigation to mediation to collaboration and more.

I was 9 years old when my parents went through their messy divorce; I know what it is like to be a child in a divorce action and I use that experience to help provide perspective in the collaborative process. I see myself as counselor and advocator; it is my job to not only advocate on behalf of my clients but to appropriately counsel them on the potential consequences of their actions. I believe that my firm provides the most cost effective and cost conscious approach to Family Law. I pride myself on taking every reasonable step to keep legal costs to a minimum so that in the end you keep the majority of your assets; not the attorneys.

I entered law as a problem solver. My job is to get you through the process as cleanly as possible so that you can go on with your life. Family law is an area of law where they emotions run highest, and the need to minimize unnecessary conflict is greatest, particularly if there are children involved. I would rather have the money going to your children's care than to my fees. Collaborative law offers the best way I have found for people to come through this process cleanly, and with the best interest of the child achieved. I am glad to be part of this process.

I have been a lawyer for over twenty years. From January 2011 to April 2013, I served as a Pierce County Superior Court Commissioner. I presided over family law, probate/estate, guardianship, mental illness, juvenile court, landlord tenant, mortgage foreclosure, and other matters. While on the bench, I saw many family law cases which would have been more effectively and humanly handled with a well-trained collaborative team. I chose to leave the bench and to return to private practice. My practice focuses on family law--primarily divorce, legal separation, and child custody. My prior experience as a social worker and my mediation skills are essential to helping others to handle stress and to focus on long-term goals. Serving on the bench has sharpened my ability to present an objective perspective and to assist a potential client in evaluating alternatives.
